Shirley Swanson

Shirley M. Swanson, age 91 of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025, at The Waterford in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Father Shaller will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of services on Monday at the Church.

Shirley was born September 28, 1933, to Reuben and Delaphine Lietz in Laona, Wisconsin. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids and went on to work as an Optometrist Assistant for 54 years.

Shirley found joy in spending time with her girlfriends playing the card game Bunco. She had a deep love for nature and a gentle heart for animals, that she enjoyed feeding. Her cats were her constant companions and brought her great comfort and joy throughout the years.

Shirley is survived by her cousins: Robert (Jan) Salzman, James (Dawn) Salzman, Sadie Salzman, Jake (Julie) Salzman, Dave (Laura) Dewey all of Madison, Jayne Qualls of Wausau and many distant cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and good friend Don Swanson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Wood County Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Shirley’s family would like to thank the staff at The Waterford Memory Care of Wisconsin Rapids and St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion.
