Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin

Sandra “Sandy” Jacobsen, age 83, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Sandy was born on October 20, 1943, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Eldon and Marlys (Gilsrud) Evjen. Her family later moved to Wood Lake, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school in 1961.

In 1962, Sandy met her husband, Floyd “Jake” Jacobsen, at a dance in Montevideo. They were married on August 1, 1964, at Jevnaker Lutheran Church.

Shortly after their marriage, Sandy and Jake moved to Wisconsin Rapids, where they raised their two daughters, Kristen and Kimberly. Sandy worked as an administrative assistant and especially enjoyed her final position at City Hall. At age 50, she suffered a brain hemorrhage and was unable to return to work.

Sandy enjoyed social gatherings with the wonderful neighbors of Shady Lane, traveling with Jake in their fifth-wheel camper, cruising in her golf cart, playing cards, baking and cooking, reading, and watching Packers games. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sandy was also an avid animal lover and had a special fondness for the family dogs.

Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jake, who passed away in February 2022 after 58 years together; her younger sister, Renay Gerdes; her youngest brother, Neil Evjen; and several other family members and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Kristen Jacobsen and Kimberly (Tim) Paitel; her grandchildren, Jacob (Angela) Paitel, Allison (Damon) Severson, and Madeline (Aden) Elsen; and her great-granddaughters, Harper and Emersyn Severson. She is also remembered by her grand-dogs, Rudee and Carlos, and her great-grand-dogs, Selena, Raggie, Fenrir, Cookie, Oscar, Maple, Poppy, and Melvin.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the angels from Heartland Hospice for their compassion and care.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Minnesota on August 29.

“We have an angel watching over us. She is Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend.”
