Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin
Roy W. Fiegel, age 94, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Roy was born January 28, 1930 in Wisconsin Rapids to Gustav and Florence (Bulgrin) Fiegel. He married Beverly Howard on May 1, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They were blessed with 70 years of marriage.
He served his country in the National Guard for 20 years. He was called to active duty at Fort Lewis in Olympia, Washington.
Roy worked for a local HVAC company prior to being called to Fort Lewis. Upon his return, he began employment as a sheet metal worker at Consolidated Papers Inc. He retired from Consolidated after 31 years of service.
Roy’s work was a testament to his dedication and resourcefulness. His love of working with his hands extended beyond his professional life. He enjoyed working on projects for his children and grandchildren and found joy in completing even the simple ones. Towards the end of his life, Roy would cringe at having to pay someone to do a project that he knew he could have completed himself.
He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. His faith and church were cornerstones of his life and he was always willing to lend a hand where needed, including serving as an usher and teaching Vacation Bible School children basic skills with tools. His community service included a time on the Board of Directors for the Water Works and Lighting Commission.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; children: Sue (Charles Cook) Fiegel of Sugarloaf Key, FL, Mark (Christine Palazzari) Fiegel of Glendale, WI, and David Fiegel of New Berlin, WI; grandchildren: Ian Cook, Ryan (Meagan) Cook, and Melissa Fiegel; and great-grandson, Morrison. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Harvey and John; and sisters: Dorothy Popelka, Marien Fiegel, and Gladys Hagenau; and granddaughter Carrie Lynn Fiegel.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Vicar Joseph Eggerman will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 2:00 P.M. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
