Ronald Akey

Ronald G. Akey, age 69, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Monday, February 17, 2025 at his residence.

Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Kevin Ader will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Sunday at the funeral home.

Ron was born July 29, 1955 in Wisconsin Rapids to Gordon and Virginia (Friday) Akey. He graduated from Port Edwards High School. He married Susan Doan on December 19, 1979 in Wisconsin Rapids.

Ron took immense pride in his work as a truck driver and was the owner of Ron Akey Trucking. His vocation was a reflection of his character – reliable, steadfast, and always going the extra mile. Outside his work, Ron was a man of many passions. His love for woodworking, nurturing the neighborhood wildlife, and his impressive knack for growing tomatoes were just a few amongst his many interests. He was an avid NASCAR fan, particularly of Dale Earnhardt, and his love for the sport was as infectious as his spirit. He was known for his ever-present desire to help others, always the first to ensure his neighbors' snow was plowed. But perhaps Ronald's most cherished role was being a devoted husband to Sue an exceptional father and grandfather. His love for his family was unparalleled, and his legacy lives on in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Susan; two children: Christy (Curt) Quednow and Jeremy (Crystal Kuentjes) Akey; grandsons: Alex, Wyatt, Zach, Tristan, Jonnie, Michael, Tanner, Diesel, Dexter, Luke, Logan, and Jaxx; granddaughters: Alycia, Halaya, Addy, Justina, and Kiana; great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Walter, Ellianna, Cooper, Corbin, and Carson; and sister, Marion (Karl) Zuege. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Franklin and Patricia Doan, and brother, Dennis Akey.
