Patricia Thome went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2025, at the age of 86. Born in Pensaukee to Clifford and Maybelle Thome, she spent her school years in Oconto before raising her family in Northern Illinois.
Pat loves the Lord deeply and lived as a joyous, generous servant of God. One of her most treasured gifts was her natural connection with children, something that was felt by many who lovingly called her “Grandma Pat.” She provided daycare for years, and her nurturing spirit left a lasting impression on the children she cared for.
Her home and her heart were open to anyone in need. Family, friends, neighbors, church members, and children often filled her house. Whatever the need: a meal, a hug, a band-aid, a prayer, a clean diaper, some wise advice, or a well-timed dose of humor; Pat gave generously and without hesitation.
She had a passion for cooking, always kept a garden, and loved to host family and friends. What was your favorite? One of her famous chicken casseroles? Her delicious pies? Or perhaps one of her lovingly made celebration cakes, often held together by toothpicks and string. Ohhh… what fond memories!
Never one for idle hands, she filled her days with purpose. When she wasn’t working, you might find her swimming at the YMCA, attending a book club or prayer meeting, teaching Missionettes, rocking babies in the church nursery, or traveling on mission trips to help the needy and share the Gospel. The list of ways she served goes on and on.
What we will miss most about Pat is her faithful daily prayers for each of us. I often wonder how much protection and blessing we’ve received throughout our lives because of her prayers. Her worn Bibles and handwritten prayer notes reflect her steadfast faith, but even more powerful are the countless lives God touched through her example. She is a true servant of the Lord, and her legacy of love, prayer, and service will endure. Today, she is rejoicing with the Lord—and what a beautiful sight it must be to see her lift her hands to Him. If you could hear her now, she’d say, “I love you,” and she’d want you to know the Lord.
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” —Romans 10:9
