Mindy Hakala, 73, passed away on July 31st, 2025, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

Born on June 16, 1952, Mindy graduated from Millikan High School in Long Beach, California, and later attended Long Beach State. She built a fulfilling career working for various companies in the Madison area, including Covance, the American Red Cross, RMT, and the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium. She especially loved working in laboratory environments where her calm and logical nature thrived.

Mindy was married to her husband Gregory for 51 years. Their enduring partnership was marked by mutual respect and shared decision-making. Together they raised two children, Uriah (Mona) and Rachel (Paul). She is also survived by brother, Mike (Teresa), and 4 grandchildren: Tyler, Violet, Kale and Lain.

Her friends often described her as a strong woman with a calm presence who laughed easily, each laugh distinct and memorable. She made friends effortlessly and was known for being a wonderful mother and a fantastic cook.

Outside of work and family life, Mindy found joy in her vegetable garden, crocheting intricate pieces by hand, and completing daily crossword puzzles with dedication.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Paula Friedman and Stepfather Joseph A Sachs

A private celebration of life will be held to honor Mindy’s memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Planned Parenthood in her name.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
