Mildred Utegaard

Mildred J. Utegaard, age 88, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Edenbrook Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids.

A Celebration of Life will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home.
Mildred was born on February 26, 1936, in Glidden, WI, to Christ and Emily (Kiefer) Rast.

Mildred graduated from Glidden High School in 1954. She continued her education at Northern Technical School in Ashland for two years.
Mildred met the love of her life while working at the Pic Ice Cream Shop in Ashland. She married George Cary Utegaard on May 17, 1958, at Christ Lutheran Church in Washburn, Wisconsin. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage until his passing in January 2011.

Mildred found immense joy in the simple things in life. She loved traveling and exploring different states, and she often visited her hometowns up north while camping. Her most cherished role, however, was that of a homemaker. She took great pride in raising her two daughters, Karen and Debra; their success and happiness were her greatest achievements. Mildred was also a woman of faith and a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, and her presence will be missed in the congregation.

Mildred is survived by her children, Karen (Fred) Zimmerman and Debra (Randy Hopp) Brehm; grandchildren: Lacey May Zimmerman and Torin Brehm; sister Norma Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Utegaard, and her parents, Christ and Emily Rast; brothers: Edward, Herbert and Daniel; sister Gertrude and her beloved dogs.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Edenrook of Wisconsin Rapids for the care they have given Mildred for the past five years. The family would also like to thank Heartland Hospice care nurses for the care provided over the past two weeks.
