Michael A. Hentz

–

Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin

Michael Anthony Hentz, age 78, of Wisconsin Rapids, peacefully passed away at House of the Dove (Marshfield) on December 15th, 2023. He was born on April 1st, 1945, in Dodgeville, WI. The son of Anthony Hentz and Margaret Searles.

Mike was a skilled tradesman, a Charter Boat Captain, and a plumber-pipefitter for over 30 years. He was a passionate adventurer and devoted family man, embracing life with a spirit of exploration and a deep love for the great outdoors. Whether casting a line on the serene waters of Lake Michigan or Venice, Louisiana or embarking on hunting expeditions in the vast landscapes of the West and Alaska, Mike found solace and joy in nature's beauty.

The family cottage on Lake Pepin was a cherished retreat where Mike created lasting memories surrounded by loved ones. Bird hunting expeditions in Canada with faithful Quigley by his side and hunting in Ella were pursuits that fueled his adventurous soul, creating stories that would be passed down through generations.

A loving husband, Mike shared countless adventures with his devoted wife, Rosie (Ma!) of 54 years of marriage, creating a bond that withstood the tests of time. Together, they raised two sons, Anthony (Kristy); grandsons, Grayson and Stetson; and Clifford (Carrie); and granddaughters Marina and Blakely instilling in them a love for the great outdoors and a sense of adventure. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert and P.J. Gillespie, and sister Marguerite Anderson.

Mike's legacy is etched in the tales of fishing, the camaraderie of hunting trips, and toasting to life's big and little moments. As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, the tune (and first wedding dance) of "The Sounds of Silence" reminds us of the depth and richness of Mike's journey. In the quiet reflection of this moment, we hear a gentle whisper:

"I've seen the barge. It's time to go home."

The family would like to thank the staff at Mayo Clinic-Rochester and House of Dove for exceptional care. A celebration of life will take place at The Fallback (formerly Double Down) in Wisconsin Rapids on Friday, January 5th from 1-4 PM with a toast to Mike at 2:30 PM.
