Mavis Newman

Mavis A. Newman, age 90, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Waterford in Wisconsin Rapids.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mavis was born on October 11, 1933, to David and Pearl (Ruelle) Newman. She was one of fifteen children born in Biron, WI. She graduated from Lincoln High School. Mavis worked at the Biron Mill for several years and later retired from the Port Edwards Mill.

As a woman with a heart as large as her collection of recipes, Mavis was known for her love of cooking and baking. Her home was always filled with the scent of something delicious in the oven, and her family knew better than to leave without having a bite. She was the heart of every family gathering, particularly during Thanksgiving and Christmas, her passion for food and love for her family making each holiday a cherished memory. Mavis was a devoted member of the Moravian Church, where she often helped organize and cook funeral lunches and Lenten dinners. Her compassion extended to every aspect of her life, from her work at church to her love for her nieces and nephews, whom she loved as her own children.
Mavis was creative, always coming up with the best ideas for her nieces and nephews. Whether packing them into her car for a trip to Herschleb's for ice cream in their pajamas or planning the next family gathering, she had an incredible knack for making everyday life a little more special.

Mavis is preceded in death by her parents and fourteen siblings. She is survived by one brother, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
