Marie was born April 10, 1930 in Nekoosa, WI to Chester and Sophia (Johnson) LeMay. She married Theodore “Dick” LeMay on July 28, 1951. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2015.
Marie spent her career as an elementary school teacher, beginning in a one room rural schoolhouse. She taught at St. Vincent de Paul Grade School in Wisconsin Rapids for over 30 years until her retirement.
Marie and Dick lived in Wisconsin Rapids with their children until 1971, when they purchased the family farm from Louis LeMay.
Marie's love for the land was evident in her large vegetable gardens, and she took immense pride in canning her own produce. Her culinary skills were legendary, especially when it came to her marvelous pies. The holidays at the LeMay farm were joyous occasions, filled with warmth, laughter, and Marie's delicious home-cooked meals.
Marie spent a lifetime cultivating both young minds and bountiful gardens. Her love for family history kept her grounded and her passion for teaching extended beyond the confines of her classroom. She welcomed countless students on class trips to the family farm, instilling in them an appreciation for nature and the beauty of growing one's own food and producing maple syrup.
Marie is survived by her children: Janice LeMay, Dennis LeMay, Sue LeMay-Jaeger (Dave de Felice), and Larry LeMay; grandchildren: Kelsey Peterson (fiancé Jesse Crowne), Matthew (Debbie) Jaeger, Christopher Reinwand, MacKenzie LeMay, and Levi Reinwand; great-grandchildren: Emerald, Zoey, Kayden, Shelby, Eva, and William; and sister, June Tomczyk. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ted “Dick” LeMay; and siblings: sisters Irene Steinke, Dorothy Crotteau, Lillian Enerson, Agnes Knuth, Darlene (Dolly) Sering, and brothers Clarence LeMay, Chester LeMay, Kenneth LeMay, and James LeMay.
