Plover, Wisconsin
Lola M. Wernberg, age 92, of Wisconsin Rapids, was called home to be with her savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 24, 2026. She was born in Adams, Wisconsin to the late Alfred and Lorella (Smith) Robinson on September 10, 1934. Lola married the love of her life, Dwight Wernberg, on June 10, 1961. Lola attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis and graduated from Wisconsin State College in Stevens Point. Lola taught elementary school for several years and continued to substitute teaching until retirement. Lola was an active member in her church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, helping with Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) and Vacation Bible School. Lola enjoyed growing vegetables in her large garden; canning and freezing the harvest to enjoy throughout the year. Lola was a wonderful cook and baker. She always had fresh homemade cookies in the cookie jar, and her famous “belly-button” rolls were looked forward to at each family gathering. But most of all, she loved God and her family and always looked forward to spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Faith was an important part of Lola's life. As member of Faith Baptist Church, she found great joy in serving her church family. Her caring nature, generous spirit, and willingness to share her time with others reflected the values she held dear.
Lola will be dearly missed by her children: Kevin (Karen) Wernberg, Plover, Wisconsin and Renee (Jeff) Witthuhn, of Greenville, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Jessica (Gavin) Hutchinson, Benjamin (Kristin) Wernberg, and Zachary (Tracy) Wattron; great-grandchildren: Everett Hutchinson, Elina Hutchinson, Oliver Wattron, Harvey Wattron, and Calvin Wattron. She is further survived by a brother Alfred Robinson; sister Ann (Terry) Messing, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lola was greeted in heaven by her parents Alfred and Lorella Robinson; brother Harold (Maryanne) Robinson; sister Marie (Melvin) Kingsley; sister-in-law Carmine Robinson, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law LaVone (David) Robinson.
The family would like to extend the warmest thank you and appreciation to Arborwood Assisted Living, Arborview Memory Care, and St Croix Hospice for the wonderful care provided to our mother.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Josh Steinmetz officiating. With lunch to follow at the Herman-Taylor Celebration Room. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park.
Lola will be remembered for her kind heart, her devotion to her faith, her lifelong commitment to education, and the unconditional love she had for her family. Although she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
