Lester Elmer

Lester J. Elmer, age 88, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 29 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Thursday at the church. Burial will be at a later date at St. John Lutheran Parish Cemetery.
Les was born July 19, 1935 in Oshkosh, WI to Joseph and Hulda (Baumman) Elmer. He served his country in the United States Army from 1955-1958, including time in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. He married Jean (Steinke) Grosskreutz on December 30, 1989 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.
Les was employed by Consolidated Papers Inc. in Wisconsin Rapids for 39 years prior to his retirement.
Les was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where he served as usher. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and traveled cross country with his beloved wife Jean, often stopping to participate in bowling tournaments along the way. Les also enjoyed taking walks or just hopping in the car to take a ride.
Les is survived by his loving wife, Jean Elmer; daughter, Angel Elmer; stepchildren: Sandy (Ed) Barse, Sharon Grosskreutz, Douglas Grosskreutz, Deb Beadle, Dennis Grosskreutz, Dale Grosskreutz, and Lynn (Michelle) Coates; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Jan) Elmer; and sister, Mary Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Elmer; and sisters: Shirley (Clifford) Janssen and Nancy Erdman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice.
