Leonard Walker

Leonard C. Walker “Wakąjacoonį”, age 64, of Nekoosa, WI passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 at Unity Point Health Meriter Hospital in Madison.

Commitment services will be at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the Chakh-hah-chee Community Building in Nekoosa. Dr. Dashell Thunder will officiate. Burial will be at Dexterville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the Chakh-hah-chee Community Building.

Leonard was born October 31, 1960 in Wisconsin Rapids to David and Yvonne (Ricehill-Wells) Walker Jr. He lived in Minnesota for 20 years while working at Mystic Lake Casino. He moved back to Nekoosa and worked for the Ho-Chunk Housing and Community Development Agency (HHCDA) as a commissioner.

Leonard enjoyed attending Native American Church prayer meetings. He loved dancing in earlier years at Pow-Wows and singing with the Renegade Singers and Thunder Bear Singers. He also enjoyed gambling at the casino, bowling, and playing basketball. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Bucks fan.

Leonard raised his niece, Adriane Walker and nephew, Tyrone Walker who survive him. He is further survived by grandchildren: Alyssa Espinoza and Andrew Walker; special niece Jessica Stealer; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Walker and Norma Stealer; and brothers: Richard (Anita) Walker, David (Carri) White Eagle, and Lawrence (Lanette) Walker Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Lisa Eagleman, Darlene Walker, Jenny Sickles, Orvilla White Eagle, Angel Walker, Janice Walker, Glorianna Walker, and Becky Walker; and brothers: Cameron Walker, Elliott Walker, Christian Walker, and Kevin Walker.
