Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin

John W. Werner of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, passed away on January 17, 2024, at the age of 87. John was born April 15, 1936, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to the late Mary Agnes (Erhard) and Leonhard W. Werner. In 1948 the family moved to Wisconsin Rapids where he graduated from Lincoln High School as a member of the class of 1954. Upon graduating, John worked at Preway until entering the army in 1958 where he served until December 1960. Upon his discharge he began working for the Department of the Army in a civilian capacity, remaining in Korea until August 1964. In June 1962, while in Korea, he married Jung K. Han. The marriage lasted until Jung’s death in July of 2001. Upon returning to Wisconsin Rapids, John was employed first at Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company and then at 3M Company as a supervisor where he retired in 1992. In December of 2003 John married Marguerite (Micki) Aron, partners until his death.
John was a caring man and one of great character. He always put the needs of others before his own. He was focused on doing the right thing. John loved his family and was proud of each of their accomplishments. He also loved his dogs, spoiling them to no end. John loved doing things with others including fishing (especially with his brother Len), biking, and going to breakfast with friends. He also was a passionate fan of the Packers and Badgers. John was not only accomplished in his career but was also a skilled woodworker and could hide candy like no other.
John is survived by his wife Micki; children Mark (Janet) of Mequon, WI, and Kim (Richard) Hutchings of Dexter, MI; siblings Dolores Werner of Seven Lakes, NC, and Leonard (Paula) Werner of Mt. Horeb, WI; stepdaughters Shelley Aron of Chicago, IL, and Christina Aron-Sycz (Arek) of Bellevue, WA; grandchildren Juliana and Nathan Werner, David and Emily Hutchings, and Roman and Alina Sycz; and many nieces and nephews.
