John Orth

John C. Orth, age 88, of Wisconsin Rapids, formerly of Manitowoc, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Marshall Church Worship Site, Manitowoc. Rev. Doug LeCaptain will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the church. Interment will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery and Chapel in Manitowoc.

John was born January 3, 1936 in Manitowoc to Edward and Elizabeth (Kaiser) Orth. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. He married Carolyn J. Sprang on June 22, 1957 in Manitowoc. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage and six children.
John was an ice cream maker at Sorges, Lake to Lake, and Land O Lakes for 33 years.

John loved attending to his large vegetable gardens. He enjoyed the competition of a good game of horseshoes or dartball. He was an avid woodworker and also enjoyed camping with his family.

John is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; sons: Thomas (Sally) Orth, Randy (Jenie) Orth, and Jim (Brenda) Orth; daughters: Teresa Orth and Sue (Paul) Knipp; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Ariel (special friend Zach), Travis (Heather), Gennessa, Jake (Emily), Katie (Steve), Alicia (John), and Nicole (Joshua); 15 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); brother, Francis Orth; brothers-in-law: Franny Sprang and Roger (Sandy) Sprang; sisters-in-law: Rita Mae Orth, Joanne Popp, Mary Mrotek, Ann Keli, and Donna Sprang; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Kathryn; 15 brothers; 3 sisters; and numerous in-laws.
