James (Jim) Theodore Vruwink, 87, of Sherry, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, on his farm. He was born on February 26, 1937, in the Town of Sherry, Wood County, WI, to Ira and Florence (Ver Cruse) Vruwink.
Jim was known for his dedication and tireless work ethic. He first owned and operated his own milk hauling business and worked at Consolidated Paper. Later, Jim embraced his passion for farming, dedicating himself to the land and working tirelessly to provide for his family. He was also passionate about sharing his love for farming, actively recruiting new memberships in the Wisconsin Farm Bureau and the AMPI.
In 1958, Jim married Donna (Spranger) and together they built a loving home and family. He is survived by their children: Cynthia Will, Judy (Dale) Murrow, Jane (Tom) Hilgart, Doug Vruwink, James L. (Tracy) Vruwink, Thomas Vruwink, and Amy Sue Vruwink (Matt Crane). Jim is also survived by his grandchildren: Brent, Brandon, Lindsey, Lindy, Aaron, Dale Jr., Jade, Adam, Tyler, Myles, Trae, Katheryn, Zach, Brittney, Danielle, Justin, Lexi, Michael, Chelsey, Carissa, Chasten, Chandler, Kennedy, and Jackson, as well as 24 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters: Shirley Mertes, Carol Hanneman, and Margie Schenk; sister-in-law Bonita Benschoter; and brothers-in-law: Tom, Tony, and Mike Spranger, and Bob Weidner and many nephews and nieces.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his son, Ronald; his parents; his brothers: Don Vruwink, Bill Vruwink, Lewis (Karen) Vruwink, Edward (Shirley) Vruwink, Ira (Inge) Vruwink, and Howard (Betty) Vruwink; son-in-law, Dale Will; brothers-in-law: Jim Mertes, Jerry Schenk, and Tom Hanneman; and sister-in-law, Betty Weidner.
Jim had a deep love for life's simple pleasures, especially ice cream, making the Schwan's man's stop on Vruwink Road a favorite event. A die-hard Packers fan, Jim never missed a game. If you ever sat with Jim at the table, he made sure to share his favorite cheeses. Known for his playful spirit, Jim was a bit of a trickster, delighting in light-hearted pranks and keeping everyone around him laughing. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding joy in their laughter and presence.
A visitation will be held on May 30th from 4 to 7 PM at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors on May 31st from 9 to 10 AM, followed by the service at the same location. Following the service, Jim will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in the town of Sherry.
Jim will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his work ethic and love for Ford Tractors carries on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We find solace knowing he is reunited with his beloved wife and son, Ronald, in the embrace of eternal peace.
Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.
