James A. Dostal, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center. He was born on February 13, 1957, in Wisconsin Rapids, the son of Anton “Tony” and Lorraine (Havlik) Dostal. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home. The burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting, especially whitetail deer. He helped build The Ridges Golf Course & Campground in his youth, and then after a 14-year career at the Biron Division of Consolidated Papers he turned his love of woodworking into a full-time business, Dostal’s Woodworking. Jim was an artist with wood, and examples of his craft can be found in many area homes and businesses to this day.
Jim always joked that he only liked reading if it had pictures, and he was an avid collector of Mad and Conan the Barbarian magazines. Any trip to a new town had to include a stop at the local comics store and he did eventually complete his full Conan collection. Jim enjoyed pig roasts with family and friends and was always willing to put on an amazing meal for family events or fundraisers. He was always first in line for an adventure or mischief – building tree forts for his children, crafting the perfect potato cannon or even weekend road trips to buy fireworks that weren’t available – but everyone enjoyed.
James is survived by his son, Jason (Kristin) Dostal; his daughter, Raquel Dostal; his brother, Joe (Vonnie) Dostal; his grandchildren, Rayne Dostal and Emma Reichensperger. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank the Clark Country Rehabilitation and Living Center for all the care they gave James.
He will forever be in our hearts.
