In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am. The promise of Jesus, as found in John 14:2,3
Georgene LaRae Provost, 88, was called to her eternal home in heaven on February 10, 2026. Georgene was born on December 25, 1937, in the Township of Sigel, Wood County, to George and Lillian (Steuck) Bautz. As an infant, she was made a child of God through the power of Holy Baptism. Her baptismal faith was strengthened through instruction in God's Word, and she was confirmed in the faith as a teenager. Georgene remained faithful to her confession of faith until the day of her passing.
She attended St. John's elementary school in Sigel and graduated from Lincoln High School, Wisconsin Rapids in 1955. She then worked as a telephone operator for Wood County for about five years.
The Lord blessed Georgene with family. She was united in Christian marriage to Ronald J. Provost on May 31, 1958. Their union remained strong and firm for over 67 years. Ron and Georgene lived the wedding vows they took before God and man, being faithful to each other, cherishing, supporting, and helping each other in sickness and in health as long as they both lived. Using Jesus' self-sacrificing and unconditional agape love as a guide, Ron made sure all of Georgene's needs were met, especially these last few years as Alzheimer's disease afflicted her. They were blessed with two children, Kevin and Kari, and they raised them in the Christian faith.
Georgene was a faithful and active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and School in Wisconsin Rapids where she served her Lord with love by volunteering her time and gifts and serving in many functions to expand the kingdom of her Savior Jesus Christ. She especially enjoyed the weekly women's Bible study. Georgene was a very caring and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to bake and was always filling gallon sized containers with the yummy cookies she made. She enjoyed gardening, horses, dogs, angels, the Packers and the annual family trip up north to fish and relax in God's beautiful creation. She especially loved getting her grandchildren together for a day of fun in addition to attending their sporting and other events. A lovely moment from her past was when she would ride on the handlebars of her future husband Ron's bicycle while he did his paper route.
Those thankful for sharing the blessings of Georgene's life include her husband Ronald, son Kevin (Sheila) Provost of Wisconsin Rapids, daughter Kari (David) Kellen of Black River Falls; three grandchildren, Ross (Rachel) Provost of Wisconsin Rapids, Michael (Amanda) Kellen of Milwaukee, and Faye (Lance) Wolosek of Plover; and seven great-grandchildren Noah, Caleb, Adalyn, Rhett, Ridge, Reece, and Jace. She is further survived by sisters-in-law Marilyn (Huntz) Link and Donna Provost; and brother-in-law Larry Ubinger and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather George Hetzel; four sisters, Shirley (Harold) Lee, Dorothy (Laverne) Ubinger, Julianne Magee, and Naomi (Harvey) Pierce; brothers-in-law infant Roger Provost, Donald (Suzanne) Provost, and Leon Provost; and sisters-in-law infant Darla Provost, Beverly (Gilbert) Pecher, and Karen Ubinger.
The family wishes to thank Scott Dickman, MD, Brittany Ocker, PAC, and all the wonderful members of her healthcare team at Aspirus who provided compassionate care for Georgene; home caregiver Jane Jackan for her loving care; Aspirus hospice for assisting in allowing Georgene to remain at home during her last days; and Herman-Taylor Funeral Home for their thoughtful guidance in assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be designated to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and School in Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, February 16, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids. Reverend Peter Plagenz will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Mausoleum immediately following the service.
May God meet the special needs of each of you who grieve by pointing you to the comfort and strength of Christ's resurrection. Our own rising from death will bring us together again with Georgene to celebrate the glory of Him who died to set us free!
Surely goodness and love follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6
