George L. West

George L. West, 67, of Darlington, passed away on Sunday, April 21, at Nekoosa, WI.
George was born on September 12, 1956, in Washington, D.C., to Dorothy (Block) and Walter S. West, Sr. In 2008, he married Susan Stelzer, of Nekoosa.
George began high school in Darlington, attended Campion High School in Prairie du Chien, and graduated from JFK Prep in St. Nazianz, WI. He attended UW-Stevens Point where he met and began dating his future wife. He also attended Hillsborough Community College in Ybor City, FL and the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. George earned a bachelor’s degree in business from UW-Platteville and a master’s degree in special education from Edgewood College in Madison. He attended the University of Dubuque for commercial aviation and Southwest Tech for machining and electronics.
Just as George’s education was long and varied, so was his working career. George taught skiing at Chestnut Hill in Galena, IL and at Keystone Resort in Colorado. He worked for CESA 3, teaching Alternative Education to students from five school districts. He then worked at Rayovac/Energizer Corporation in Fennimore as an industrial mechanic, keeping the robotics working. George loved every job that he had.
George had a great recreational lifestyle. He went skiing and golfing as often as possible. He collected and enjoyed riding motorcycles and working in his garage. He enjoyed spending time with his good friends, Bruce Williams, Jim Green, and Chuck Rees. Recently, he caught up with former classmates from Darlington, Brent Erickson and Gary Paynter. George was a member of the Darlington Antique Club and the Darlington Country Club. George had an out-going personality and a generous heart. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Walter West, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Susan; brother, Walter S. (Amy) West, Jr.; sister, Janet West; niece, Lin West; and nephew George F. West. A private burial will be held in Nekoosa. A Celebration of Life in memory of George L. West will be held in Darlington.
