George was born December 11, 1951 in Wisconsin Rapids to Francis and Dorothy (White) King. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. He married Susan Plahmer on April 24, 1971 in Wisconsin Rapids.
George was a man of many talents, interests, and passions. His career with the United States Postal Service spanned an impressive 32 years, serving his community tirelessly as a mail clerk at the Wisconsin Rapids Post Office. But the joy he found in life existed in the world beyond work. A man of adventure and a lover of the skies and seas, George was a private pilot who owned his own plane and enjoyed sailing on his beloved sailboat. He was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a testament to his discipline and dedication. His creative spirit was evident in his love for home brewing, wine making, and woodworking. A collector at heart, George held a special interest in stamp collecting, and he was known for his love of riding his motorcycle and golfing, always embracing the thrill of the open road and the camaraderie of the greens.
After retirement, he and Susan relocated to Moreno Valley, CA, Vancouver, WA and Parker, CO experiencing many adventures and gaining new friendships, returning to Wisconsin Rapids in 2023. Summers were spent at Pelican Lake, WI enjoying the company of friends on his pontoon boat. His love of music was evident as he was a member of the Barbershoppers and also sang with the Monteverdi Master Chorale for several years, traveling to Washington DC to sing at the National Cathedral.
George is survived by his loving wife, Susan; son, Christopher (SuZ) King of Parker, Colorado; brother, Jerry (Michelle) King of Wisconsin Rapids; sister-in-law, Carol Pryne of Wisconsin Rapids; special nephew, Steven (Linda) King and niece, Cheri (Andrew) Ashbeck; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: David King, Donald King, and Robin King; sister, Marlene Leinweber; and sister-in-law, Judy King.
