She was born on February 2, 1935, in Arpin, Wisconsin, to the late William and Sylvia (Strope) Yoss. On September 20, 1952, she married Joseph W. Martin at the Methodist Church in Necedah, WI. They spent the next 22 years together until his passing on May 5, 1974.
Elaine and Joe were blessed with four children. She had strong faith and was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years. She had a passion for knitting and crocheting and was known for her slippers, afghans, and dish cloths. Family and friends were blessed with a new pair of slippers and dish cloths each Christmas. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Mom loved gardening and created beautiful flower gardens. Her favorite pastime was watching sports, cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers and Dallas Cowboys. Her favorite time of year was baseball season. Family gatherings were not complete without her famous garlic bread. Even though she shared the recipe, it was never the same as when Granny made it.
Elaine is survived by her two children, Jerilyn (Jim) Anderson, Jon (Donna) Martin, and daughters-in-law Deb Martin and Brenda Martin. She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Tanya (Rob) Braun, Andrea (Cody) Wills, Christopher (Heather) Martin, Amanda (Jim) Slomski, Katie (Gavin) De Cleene, Jarrod Martin, Joseph (Kailin) Martin, and Alexandria (Dylan) Martin. She had eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Arvilla Yoss, and brother Ron (Linda) Yoss. Nieces, nephews, and cousins further survive her.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Gary and Greg. Also, her brother Wallace and great-grandson Aiden. Her special friend, Ray Wilhelm, also preceded her in death.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and caregivers at Renaissance Assisted Living, Aspirus Hospice Care of Wausau, and Pastor Peter Plagenz of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church for their care and comfort given to Elaine and the family during this difficult time.
