Dennis J. “Denny” Utecht, age 80, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Clark County Rehabilitation Center in Owen, Wisconsin. He was born on June 15, 1946, in Marshfield, the son of Melvin and Edith (Hause) Utecht. On January 31, 1970, Dennis married Jean Gerzmehle in Wisconsin Rapids. She preceded him in death in 1990. Denny served his country in the United State Army.
Denny began his career with the City of Wisconsin Rapids in 1968, working first in the streets division and later in the sign shop, where he remained until his retirement. He took great pride in his work and was well known for his dedication and craftsmanship.
Denny enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and good company. He loved playing golf, horseshoes, and pool; watching NASCAR; road tripping with friends in search of the best burger; visiting local farmers markets; and relaxing with friends and family at the Sunrise—his favorite watering hole. He was also famous for making the best deviled eggs around, a treat everyone looked forward to.
Denny is survived by his daughter, Heather (Jeff Helmuth) Utecht—his pride and joy; his granddaughter, Maddison Reinwand; his sisters, Sandy Christman and Marilyn (Mike) Bodgansky; his brother-in-law, Steve (Tammy) Gerzmehle; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; his sister, Donna (Tom) Schooley; his sisters in law, Mary (Jerry) Pieper and Kathy (Tom) Hanneman; and his brothers-in-law, Jim Gerzmehle and Vern Christman.
