Deirdra Iron Shell

Deirdra Gwen Iron Shell, age 50, of Stevens Point, WI passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 29, 2024.

Deirdra was born September 24, 1973 in Rosebud, South Dakota to James Iron Shell and Margaret His Blue Horse and was a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. She graduated high school in Mission, SD and worked as an office assistant for various businesses.

Deirdra was known for her bubbly, outgoing personality and made friends with just about anyone she came in contact with. She had an amazing ability to make others smile. She loved life and treasured every moment she spent with her family, children, grandchildren, and friends.

Deirdra is survived by her mother, Margaret Houghton; three brothers: Roger Houghton, Jr., Daniel Houghton, Sr., and Michael Houghton; her children: Cheyenne Simmons, Tiarra Iron Shell-Pierce, and Sky Brasure; grandchildren: Melody, Serenity, Nevaeh, Emersyn, River, Oliver, Owen, Aubrey, Dalton, Chase, and Lexi; and her special friend, Steve White. She is preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

A wake will be held at the St. Francis Community Building in St. Francis, South Dakota beginning at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 8, 2024. A Lakota Prayer Service will be led by Percy Left Hand Bull Jr. Scattering of ashes will follow on Friday, August 9.
