Nekoosa, Wisconsin

Deborah A. Schmitt, age 57, of Nekoosa, WI passed away Monday, December 9, 2024 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Deborah was born September 12, 1967 in Wisconsin Rapids to David and Theresa (Gunther) Peckham. She graduated from Cameron High School. She was united in marriage to Randal Schmitt on September 8, 1990 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Wausau. They shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship for over 34 years.

Deborah was a longtime manager for H&R Block offices in Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield, and Nekoosa. She and her husband Randy moved to Maine in 2019. While there, she worked for the postal service. They returned to Wisconsin Rapids in 2022, and in 2023 Deborah began working at ND Paper in Biron.

Deborah’s hobbies were as varied as her interests. She loved the water, whether it be on a boat, on a beach, or swimming in the river behind her home in Maine. She loved being outside, soaking up the sun. Road trips with her husband, Randy, were events she looked forward to, as they gave her the opportunity to explore and admire the beauty of the world. Deborah was a gifted artist, who found joy in knitting, crocheting, and painting. Her creations were not just pieces of art, but a reflection of her soul - vibrant, warm, and beautiful. Above all, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a giver of the best hugs, making her presence felt even in her absence.

Deborah is survived by her husband, Randy Schmitt; children: Dustin (Alicia) Schmitt, Kyle Schmitt, and Shaena Schmitt; siblings: Barbara (George) Garvey, Scott (Shawn) Peckham, and Brian (Jennifer) Seehafer; step mother, Patricia Peckham; mother-in-law, Joan Schmitt; in-law siblings: Brian (Toni) Schmitt and Pat (Sandy) Schmitt; step sisters: Erica Emerson and Kristine Paulowski; adopted siblings: Joe (Pam) Strasburg, Jim (Natalia) Strasburg, Dan Strasburg, Jessica Strasburg, Jacob Strasburg, Jonathan Strasburg, and Jasmine (Jared) Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, and family friends. She was preceded in death by her father, David Peckham; mother, Theresa (Gunther) Strasburg; step father, Michael Strasburg; father-in-law, Linus Schmitt; sister, Veronica Strasburg; and brother, David Strasburg.

Deborah’s family would like to thank the Aspirus Wausau Hospital Med-Surg ICU staff for the outstanding care.

Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.
