Alfred Bretl

Alfred E. Bretl, age 82 of Wisconsin Rapids passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on August 20, 2026 at Our House Memory Care in Wisconsin Rapids. A funeral service will be held at Herman Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday, 8/26/2026. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 with a service to follow at 11. Alfred will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Mausoleum in Wisconsin Rapids.

He was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on October 5, 1943 to Edmund and Dorothy (Weir) Bretl. He worked as a Draftsman at Consolidated Papers for several years before he and his wife started Bretl’s Sports and Camping Center and ran it for almost 30 years before their retirement in 1998.

Alfred was an avid hunter and expert archer. In earlier years he and Florence enjoyed numerous trips abroad. In later years he never missed a good garage sale.

Alfred is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Florence (Rodock) Bretl. His two daughters Shelby (James) Ironside of Rhinelander and Amy (Lonne) Ubinger of Wisconsin Rapids, two grandchildren Riley (Rachel) Ubinger of Stevens Point and Lindsey Ubinger of Appleton. He is further survived by one brother, Richard (Patsy) Bretl and numerous nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edmund and Dorothy Bretl, his in-laws Earl and Alice Rodock and nephew Matthew Bretl.
