Obituary of Virgil Gabler

Virgil J. Gabler, age 76, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids at 6 P.M. Chaplain Dave Baker will officiate. Virgil was born in Highland, Wisconsin, on November 25, 1940 to Wilson and Gladys (Phillips) Gabler. He met the love of his life, LuEtta “Shorty” Rae Vollert, after moving to Wisconsin Rapids with his family. They later were married on December 13, 1958 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. She passed away on November 14, 2012.

Virgil was employed by Consolidated Papers Inc./Stora Enso for 42 years until this retirement and also farmed full time.

Virgil enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially to Branson, Missouri, to take in the scenery and shows. He also enjoyed fishing, wood working, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Virgil is survived by his children: Vanessa (Patrick) Hanneman, Kimberly (Jeff) Monahos, Jacki (Stephen) Archibald, Jeffery Gabler, Herbert (Mickey) Gabler, and Kathleen (Duane Knoll) Gabler; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters: Palma Gabler and Gwen (Ervin) Tomczyk; and sisters-in-law: Donna Dillingham and Linda Munro. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, three sisters and one brother.
