Donald R. Thomas, age 65, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, with his family and friends by his side.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Doug Schalow will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Vesper. Don was born March 16, 1952 in Milwaukee, WI to Arden and Margery (Laukenman) Thomas.
He worked as a mechanic for several area businesses and also for the copper mining industry while he lived in Arizona. Don also owned and operated his own small engine repair shop in the Marshfield, WI area.
Don enjoyed being outdoors and loved to go fishing and putz around in his yard and gardens. He was a wonderful cook who was especially known for his lasagna and pumpkin cake. Don enjoyed eating at I Spoon and liked stuffed peppers. In his younger years, he spent time going to animal swaps. He had a good time playing slot machines at area casinos. Don could be found searching for bargains at Wal Mart, Dollar Tree, and Aldi’s. Don’s smiling face could be seen at Wal Mart in Stevens Point, where he worked as a greeter. He loved reading western novels. Don knew his Bible, and this was the foundation for his strong faith.
Don is survived by his sons: David Thomas and Jeremey Thomas; his brothers: Henry (Pattie) Thomas, Fred Thomas, and Jeffrey (Nancy) Thomas; his sister, Margery (Andy) Hogan; his special friend, Kay Schladweiler; and many nieces and nephews. His is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: John Thomas, James Thomas, and Arden Thomas, Jr.
He is loved and will be deeply missed.
